It’s been six months since Mackie Motors began supporting the Angus Social Supermarket - a local initiative set up by Community First UK to help reduce food poverty and waste throughout Angus - so they thought it would be a good time to catch up with Pauline Lockhart, one of the co-founders of Community First.
In March, Mackie Motors supplied the Social Supermarket with a Renault KANGOO van to enable them to deliver food to those who were unable to collect grocery packs from Forfar. “We’ve provided almost 36,000 meals through the S-Mart Grocery Pack initiative” explained Pauline. “The KANGOO van has been invaluable, allowing us to reach people, particularly those who were shielding or were without transport during the lockdown, that otherwise we would not have been able to support”
“During the lockdown we were distributing as many as 69 three-day food packs a day and have supported over 1,000 people. We were taking requests over the phone in the morning and were open for collection or delivery in the afternoons.”
“We can't emphasise enough how instrumental having Mackie Motors provide us with a vehicle during our Grocery Pack Initiative was in supporting families across Angus. They have generously committed to providing us with a fully-electric Renault KANGOO Z.E. which will allow us to continue to tackle food insecurity and waste through our S-Mart Social Supermarket.”
“When you're a social enterprise and a relatively new organisation, it's vital to have local businesses believing in and supporting you, so we're delighted that Mackie Motors was one of the first. We really appreciate their continued support.”
