Mackie Motors are supporting a new, local social initiative, set up to help reduce food poverty and waste throughout Angus.
“It’s a time when, as a community we need to be rallying around to support each other,” said Kevin Mackie, Managing Director of Mackie Motors, “and we’re delighted to be able to do our bit, through supplying the Social Supermarket with a Renault KANGOO van”.
The Angus Social Supermarket is the latest initiative of Community First UK, a social enterprise set-up by Pauline Lockhart and Carol Malone in 2016.
“The idea is to take the mountain of surplus food currently wasted in Angus each year, and create and stock the shelves of a social supermarket, where people can purchase heavily discounted food,” explained Carol. “We’re in the process of securing premises for our first store in central Forfar, and the van will help us to transport food provision through FareShare to the new store. We’re extremely thankful for the support of Mackie Motors - not only is it a practical boost to the project, but a strong endorsement of the initiative from a great local business”.
“Mackie Motors are also kindly looking to supply us with an electric van, thereby supporting our efforts to be a sustainable enterprise”.
